What is cupping?
What we have previously known as cupping is now known as the cupping method. Many people use this method to relax and relieve pain. The modern cups are made of easy-care and shatterproof silicone. To use, the silicone cups are simply pressed together and placed on the skin of the painful muscle area. The resulting negative pressure not only promotes blood circulation, but also relieves tension, stimulates lymph flow and relieves pain.
In addition, the immune system is stimulated. Relief from asthma, high blood pressure, migraines, burnout and digestive problems has also been reported. And the results of the beneficial wellness should not be ignored under any circumstances.
In summary, the following results can be achieved with cupping applications :
- firmer skin
- greater elasticity of the connective tissue
- a better body feeling
- more mobility in the joints
- increased performance
- reduced pain symptoms
- increased blood flow to the tissue and muscles
How does the ancient method of cupping, now also called cupping therapy, work?
The method of cupping is an ancient healing technique that has been known for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Greek and Roman antiquity, and Ayurveda. Heated glass bells are placed on the skin of the back or thighs and as soon as they begin to cool down, a vacuum is created. The skin is pulled upwards in the cupping balls, stretching the underlying tissue, including the fascia*1. This method, known as dry cupping, is much more pleasant than the bloody variant, in which the skin is scratched before the glass balls are placed on it.
*1 Fascia = band that runs through the entire body in the form of a huge network. This band is soft connective tissue that surrounds the muscles and muscle groups and ensures their firmness. When healthy, the band, the fascia, adapts to the body's movements and retains its elasticity.

Cupping therapy – a symbiosis of tradition and modernity
The combination of traditional cupping combined with relaxing massage techniques is the "secret" of the cupping method. Users of modern cupping benefit from the latest scientific findings in fascia training, which is clearly a current trend, not only in gymnastics classes and sports centers, but also in sports medicine.
According to what researchers have discovered, movement restrictions, tension and muscle pain are caused by injured fascia strands that are matted and stuck together. The latest studies have shown that fascia strands that are in such a desolate state are responsible for up to 90% of the "common disease" of back pain. The pain symptoms can be explained by the numerous pain receptors that are located along the fascia bands. Once a fascia has been damaged, it can only be restored to its original elasticity with targeted training.
But what do silicone cupping cups promise us?
The silicone cups are available in different sizes to suit the respective application. The large cups are suitable for the back and legs and the small cups for the neck area and face.
In contrast to the old cupping bells, where the negative pressure is created by heating and then cooling the skin, with the silicone cups it is created mechanically, by pressing together. The greater the pressure on the cups, the greater the pressure on the skin. If the cupping cups are then slowly pulled or pushed over the skin, the fascia is stimulated. The body is encouraged to regulate itself. In addition, there is a deep massage effect.
It is possible to use the cups specifically on painful areas to provide relief. In many cases, the cups can also be used independently. For example, if you have stress-related neck pain, simply pull a cupping cup over the skin on your neck for a few minutes. Alternatively, a small cup can be used for facial massage. At this point, you can see why cupping therapies are often associated with wellness.
Is a “modern” cupping application painful?
The negative pressure causes light to heavy marks to appear on the skin. The stronger the pressure, the more severe the marks and the more pain there will be. Therefore, only create a slight negative pressure, especially at the beginning. Then the pain is minimal and in most cases no bruises will appear. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, you should be particularly careful. The risk of bruising is increased. If you have skin irritation, you should wait until it has subsided before having a cupping treatment, as this could otherwise cause further skin damage. If you follow these instructions, cupping is not only beneficial for your wellness, but also for your health.
What is needed for an effective capping application?
Silicone cups are required in different sizes. The medium size is suitable for the neck area, for example. This application can also be easily carried out at the desk in order to stretch the fascia and prevent (further) tension, which desk workers often experience.
Which cupping methods are possible?
Mobilizing and pinching are two of the many options. Regardless of whether the symptoms are fatigue, migraines, jaw grinding, high blood pressure, headaches, digestive problems or tennis elbow, there is a special method for relaxation and healing for each area. In total, there are around 50 different symptoms for which cupping therapy can be used. It is therefore a method that is beneficial to your own health and personal well-being.
