Tendonitis - What you can do now

A sore hand, a swollen foot – 2.5% of all people suffer from tendonitis at least once in their lives. The problem can often be traced back to work. But how exactly does such inflammation arise, what can you do to relieve it and how can you prevent it?

What is tendonitis?

Anyone who overstrains their tendons runs the risk of developing tendonitis. The causes of the inflammatory reaction include repetitive movements at work, in sports or at home. Musicians in particular often suffer from the burning pain. Tendonitis can rarely be traced back to a rheumatic disease or bacterial infection.

Symptoms:

  • pulling pain when moving the affected body part
  • later also pain at rest and at night
  • Redness
  • swelling
  • Pressure sensitivity
  • Movement and functional limitations

How does tendonitis develop?

The tendons connect bones and muscles. They are embedded in tendon sheaths in particularly mobile areas such as the fingers, wrists and ankles and are held together by synovial fluid, a type of lubricant. This ensures that the tendons glide smoothly without rubbing against the tendon sheaths.

If the strain is sustained, the tendon and tendon sheath become inflamed. They swell. The synovial fluid can no longer prevent friction, which leads to constant contact between the tendon and tendon sheath. Pain occurs.

The tendons are inflamed - what now?

First, a diagnosis is made by a doctor. If tendonitis is diagnosed, you will be given either a splint or a bandage for the joint. This allows the tissue around the tendon to recover and the joint is immobilized. You will also be prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.

Additional measures include:

  • Injections with cortisone
  • Cold therapy
  • Electrotherapy

Cold therapy for tendonitis

Now it's time to cool down! A tried and tested home remedy for inflammation is healing clay such as the healing mud from Schweriner Naturheil. Place the cooling pack on the affected area and allow it to take effect. The cold relieves pain and swelling and ensures that the inflammatory process is slowed down or stopped.

Schwerin Healing Moor is:

  • free from PVC plasticizers
  • particularly gentle and skin-friendly
  • made from 100% organic natural moor

Also popular: Taping

After the splint or bandage has been removed, you can continue to tape the affected area so that the joints and tendons continue to be relieved. Find out about the correct application beforehand.

A field report

Our graphic designer Kevin Bölinger also had to struggle with persistent tendonitis for a long time. Here he reveals how he got rid of the inflammation:

"I always have to make the same movement with my hand in my office job, after a while it becomes a one-sided strain... Of course I can't change my entire working habits. When it started to become a problem, when my wrist started to hurt, I had to find a solution quickly. Most of the time I take painkillers to suppress the pain, but the problem is still slumbering. I can't always afford to visit the doctor when I'm working full-time, although of course health should come first. So I have to take my health into my own hands before the problem, the pain, becomes permanent.

As luck would have it, I work at the Massunda massage table house and we have a number of tools here to test out. My boss recommended that I use the Hypersphere from Hyperice every day to relieve the tendonitis, which was already swollen at the time. No sooner said than done: whenever my hand started to hurt while working on the mouse and keyboard, I took the vibration ball and did some hand exercises on the highest setting...and I have to say, it always brought relief and I was able to carry on working. I think that if you really do it regularly and use the Hypersphere every day, you can counteract tendonitis.

I have tried many things to get rid of the pain in my hand, but in the end a preparation with CBD in combination with vibration therapy really helped me to be pain-free again!”

How does the Hypersphere work?

This vibration massage ball from Hyperice is a state-of-the-art fitness device that improves the performance and regeneration of the entire body. It also helps to relieve muscle tension and improve blood circulation.

With its compact dimensions, the ball reaches the entire body and also specific problem areas. This way you can reduce and even prevent pain such as that caused by tendonitis!

How do I prevent tendonitis?

However, to prevent it from getting that far, we have some tips for you.

  1. Use your keyboard correctly. Rest the heels of your hands in front of it to relieve pressure on your joints. Cushions can also help.
  2. Give yourself breaks. Move your hands now and then and stretch them.
  3. Use an ergonomically shaped mouse.
  4. Are you worried that you might develop tendonitis as a result of playing sports or music? Increase your workload slowly so as not to overexert your joints.
  5. Pay attention to regeneration times.
